Preparation and Installation in Potsdam
Areal Schiffbauergasse, Potsdam

At the beginning of June, the one-week assembly of the tower began in the model-building workshop of the Haus Bauwesen at the BHT. The motivated team, consisting of professors, staff and numerous students, made daily progress in the prefabrication of the seven individual parts of the wind tower. First, the four wall elements were completed, followed by the base grate and, finally, the two-part roof.
Thanks to the high degree of prefabrication of the object, work progressed quickly after the base was aligned vertically. Wall by wall was set up, first anchored to the base and then to each other to create secure tensile and flexural strength. In the next step, the two axisymmetric roof sections were manoeuvred into place and secured. After completion of the ‘shell’, minor finishing work was carried out, such as the pull mechanisms for the fold-down sections and seating.
