End-of-Year Workshop

18. December 2024

The Digital Workshop ended the year with an inspiring workshop. Students were able to express their creativity and print their own designs on T-shirts, bags and socks. With the help of a screen printing machine and textile inks, unique, handmade works of art were created - an ideal opportunity to end the year with colour and design.

Excursion to Vienna

11 - 15 November 2024

As part of the Master's module M08b, students went to Vienna with Prof. Henning von Wedemeyer during the excursion week in November. They visited various buildings, neighbourhoods and architecture firms to gather inspiration for their semester projects. Highlights such as the Wohnpark Alterlaa residential park, the roof garden of the Sargfabrik and an exclusive studio tour at AllesWirdGut Architekten were on the programme. They also visited the Sonnenwendviertel and Nordbahnhofsviertel districts and paid a visit to the Architectural Centre Vienna.

Bachelor Workshop Week Exhibition

08 November 2024

During the workshop week, the bachelor's degree architecture students devoted a week to their designs or creative impromptu tasks. The range of works included installations, models and collages. At the end of the week, the participants presented their results during a joint tour of Haus Bauwesen.

Master Workshop Week Exhibition

07 November 2024

At the end of the four-day workshop week, during which the master's students worked intensively on their designs and creative improvisation tasks, a joint tour of Schwedenstraße took place, during which the results were presented. The students took the opportunity to present their projects, explain their ideas and exchange ideas with fellow students and professors.

Workshop Week WiSe 2024/25

04 - 08 November 2024

During the workshop week, architecture students from the bachelor's and master's programmes immersed themselves in their projects and devoted themselves intensively to their designs or creative impromptu tasks. The works ranged from installations and reuse mockups to artistic collages. The participants had the opportunity to get involved in handicrafts and to live out their creativity to the full. They experimented with different materials and media, combined traditional techniques with innovative approaches and explored the limits of what is possible.

faltBAR

WiSe 2024/25

The Windturm 2.0 becomes the faltBAR: students on the Master's degree programme in Architecture took up the challenge of using materials from the Windturm in a new form. Their goal: to develop a creative and sustainable coffee bar for the BHT that embodies the idea of cohesion and reuse. The winning project, faltBAR, was selected by a jury and subsequently realised and assembled by the students themselves.

Kollektiv Kaufhof

1st place / Baunetz Campus Masters, WA Sponsorship Award

We would like to congratulate the students Jan Kottkamp and Leon Schnitzler on receiving the first prize from the Campus Masters for their bachelor thesis ‘Kollektiv Kaufhof - Transformation und Revitalisierung des ehemaligen Galeria Kaufhofs in Halle Saale’.

NØEW FUTURE

19 July - 29 August 2024

In the summer semester of 2024, BHT Master's students under the direction of Prof. Rüdiger Ebel worked on the NØEW FUTURE project in cooperation with a course led by Prof. Volker Halbach from Nuremberg Institute of Technology. The students took on the challenge of giving the existing partial shell of the Elbtower in Hamburg a sustainable function that also blends harmoniously into the cultural landscape and the neighbourhood. From 17 July to 29 August 2024, the results for the Elbtower were presented as part of an exhibition at auau's premises in Hamburg.

Long Night of the Sciences

22 June 2024

The Department for Architecture of the University of Applied Sciences in Berlin opened its doors as part of the Long Night of the Sciences. From 5 p.m. until midnight, interested parties were able to take an exciting look at the future of construction at the Haus Bauwesen on the BHT campus.

10m² Baukultur: Windturm 2.0

Building Culture Prize

As part of the 10m² Baukultur student competition, students Lara Cordes and Ceyda Aksoy developed a concept for using the car parks at the Baukultur Foundation in Schiffbauergasse in Potsdam. Their design was selected as one of ten winners and approved for realisation. For the subsequent use, which was part of the competition brief, the students proposed integrating the tower as a coffee bar in the Haus Bauwesen.

Summer Festival

14 June 2024

On 14 June 2024, the annual summer festival of the Department IV took place. As part of this festival, outstanding bachelor's and master's theses from the past two semesters were honoured and presented in an exhibition at the Haus Bauwesen. After the exhibition, the guests rounded off the evening with good weather, music and a barbecue on the BHT campus.

BLICKLicht

SoSe 2024

As an introductory task for the first semester (summer semester 2024), the students worked in teams to analyse a given building in Berlin and explore its characteristics. Inspired by the architecture, individual versions of the Berlin stool, developed by Van Bo Le-Mentzel, were designed to refer to the respective building at first glance.

Spree Metropons

Sonderpreis Kooperation / AIV Schinkel Competition 2024

The students Angie Tatiana Bautista Forero, Claudius Pompe and Jonas Schoeller won the ‘Special Prize for Cooperation’, sponsored by the Association of Consulting Engineers (VBI), with their work ‘Spree Metropons’ in the renowned AIV Schinkel Competition 2024 ‘über:morgen’ organised by the AIV Architekten- und Ingenieurverein zu Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. in the field of structural engineering.

COOL TOWN Werkschau

COOL TOWN was the overarching theme of the seminars in the architecture programme at the BHT in the winter semester 2023/24. We set out to identify problems and sketch out possible solutions. The results were presented on February the 1st 2024 as part of a joint exhibition across all modules.

End of Year Workshop

20 December 2023

In 2023, the Laboratory for Design and Urban Planning once again invited students to an enjoyable end-of-year workshop. In a cosy atmosphere, students were able to create creative Christmas stars out of paper and make artistic candle holders using an intaglio printing press. A wonderful end to the year that heralded in the festive season!

Silk Asparagus Artichokes

30 November 2023

Architecture students at BHT devoted themselves to a special piece of Berlin's migration history: the influence of 17th-century Huguenot refugees on the district of Französisch Buchholz. From 30 November 2023 to 31 March 2024, the students' results could be marvelled at in the form of a photography exhibition in the Rathaus-Galerie Pankow. Titled ‘Silk, Asparagus, Artichokes: The Huguenots – French Buchholz as Berlin's Historic Vegetable Garden’, the photo exhibition highlights the Huguenots' contribution to introducing vegetables such as asparagus, cauliflower and aubergines to the region. The project was supervised by Prof. Dr. Susanne Junker and Prof. Dr. Marcel Robischon.


REALLABOR Bruno Taut

SoSe 2023

The master's module Building Research and Building Diagnostics at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences focussed on the Waldsiedlung, which was designed by Bruno Taut in the 1920s. Students analysed the architecture and developed ideas on how it can be preserved and improved with regard to monument protection and modern requirements such as energy efficiency. The project includes research, site visits and a public exhibition. The aim was to preserve Taut's visionary designs for the future and combine them with sustainable approaches.

Summer Festival

09 June 2023

On 9 June 2023, Department IV celebrated its annual summer party on the BHT campus. For this occasion, outstanding bachelor's and master's theses from the past two semesters were also honoured in an exhibition at Haus Bauwesen. After the exhibition, the evening drew to a close with a barbecue and music in a relaxed atmosphere.

KEA Charrette

09 - 14 October 2022

As part of Charrette 2022 at the KEA in Copenhagen, BHT students developed innovative design concepts for the design of intergenerational spaces together with international fellow students. They were asked to incorporate regenerative design, bio-mimicry and the concept of ‘existainability’ into their plans. In a week full of brainstorming, discussions and expert consultations, the students developed a variety of ideas and approaches in ten teams.

RING Werkschau

04 February 2020

In the winter semester of 2019/20, a cross-semester design topic was defined: the Berliner Ring. As a result, the design modules in the bachelor's and master's programmes dealt with properties located along the aforementioned S-Bahn and motorway ring. The diversity of the resulting projects shows the students' intensive engagement with the various tasks along the ring. At the end of the semester, the projects were presented in an exhibition.

MITTE Werkschau

07 February 2019

Architecture students from the BHT presented their design work on the cross-semester topic of Berlin Mitte as part of a showcase. The project sites were located in the south of the baroque city centre and in the adjacent northern Luisenstadt. The works addressed the urban planning challenges of the derelict centre of Berlin, characterised by historical fractures and traffic divisions. Visions for a vibrant urban structure were shown with plans, models and collages.
