NØEW FUTURE: Visions for the future of the Elbtower
19 July – 29 August 2024
In the summer semester of 2024, master's students at BHT, under the direction of Prof. Rüdiger Ebel and in cooperation with a course taught by Prof. Volker Halbach at the Nuremberg Institute of Technology, dedicated themselves to the NØEW FUTURE project. The students took on the challenge of giving the existing partially completed shell of the Elbtower in Hamburg a sustainable function that would also blend harmoniously into the cultural landscape and neighbourhood. From 17 July to 29 August 2024, the results and visionary future concepts for the Elbtower were presented in an exhibition at the auau premises in Hamburg.
After years of growth and high levels of construction activity, the real estate industry is facing a crisis. Numerous construction companies have been forced to file for bankruptcy. The construction of the Elbtower in Hamburg was also affected: work was temporarily suspended, leaving the building shell unfinished.
The students' aim was to develop forward-looking visions for the unfinished building and to come up with innovative approaches that could elevate the Elbtower to a symbol of creative further construction and contemporary architecture.
