Sonderpreis Kooperation / AIV Schinkel Competition 2024

Inspired by the unique features of the surroundings around the old Brommy Bridge in Berlin, this bridge will not only be an architectural element in the urban landscape, but will also create a link between different neighbourhoods and attractions such as the East Side Gallery and the traditional working-class district of SO36. The design is based on careful consideration and recycling approaches, using the preserved bridge pier as a starting point. The load-bearing structure consists of two triangular frames connected by tension cables, which allows for optimal adaptation to the static requirements. In addition, the old bridge pier will be transformed into a pedestrian walkway offering a unique view of the city and its surrounding attractions.
